Scott Spencer, transportation and IT director of UCP of Central California, was facing a logistical puzzle. He needed a reliable system to create multiple routes with varying stops and stop times. He needed an efficient way to transport the organization’s disabled students from one destination to another.
The manual process was overwhelming. UCPCC serves over 1,100 disabled individuals and their families, managing 30 weekly routes with five stops each. Spencer needed a solution that could handle this complexity efficiently.
He turned to MyRouteOnline to help him with his transportation needs.
The organization operates 40 vehicles, most of which are fully ADA with wheelchair lifts. Spencer needed to that factor in wheelchair access, student proximity, and seat availability. With 30 routes created per week, five stops for each route, and changes occurring weekly, Spencer had a heavy weight on his shoulders.
He chose MyRouteOnline because it allowed him to import large address lists, set specific goals, add and remove routes, divide stops easily, and stay within the required trip time. He appreciated the system’s many options for determining routes that met the needs of the students and families the organization serves.
Spencer created a Microsoft PowerApps app that would generate an address list in his preferred format. He uses the command and pastes in the results. When the routes are ready, he exports them to a spreadsheet, makes some notations, and uploads them to a GPS vehicle tracking system.
Although Spencer originally used the MyRoute app via email, he is working with the API to export the routes automatically to GPS vehicle tracking system. Once the routes are uploaded to the system, they can be accessed by drivers through the GPS.
For Spencer, MyRouteOnline’s most beneficial feature is the ability to alter and adjust routes on the fly without having to re-upload addressed multiple times. He also appreciates the system’s accuracy, time savings, and route efficiency which leads to savings in transportation resources. Spencer found it remarkably accurate, more accurate than other software he used in the past.
The use of MyRouteOnline has led to significant time savings and reduced transportation costs. As an estimation, it saves about two hours a week. The automated system saves the trouble of having to create and update routes manually and cut and paste them into Google Maps or a similar system.
Spencer also notes that he has never experienced downtime or functional hiccups with the MyRouteOnline website or app. The system works well with no surprises.
